I have had handled several higonokami knives for my grinding practice; this is the first time I have ever handled a Japanese locked folder, whose only counterpart I own is an opinel, which means I don’t really know how it is supposed to be compared with other products of similar notch in the market. However, the “comparison” is secondary to the actual performance of the blade. The handle is of right size. The stainless steel clad sg2 really has superb edge retention and peak sharpness, and since it is heat treated to Rockwell 62, it is not overly brittle. The puncture in the blade makes it possible to easily open and close it with one hand. The handle is nicely shaped. Its ergonomic design really fits into my hands, although clip makes it slightly rugged, which is a fair price to pay for portability, I.e if you want to carry it on a belt or chest pocket. The only thing unexpected was that the cutting edge of the blade is slightly shorter than 94 cm, but I don’t find this nuance a problem when actually using it. With proper maintenance, I don’t think I need another EDC folder for practical reasons for a while.
